How to Create a Wire Woven Pendant Using the Baby Jewel Loom

Instructions

Step 1
Warping wire over loom button

Working off of a spool of 26-gauge artistic wire, place the warping wire against the button on the back of the Baby Jewel Loom leaving a 3 in (7.6 cm) tail.

Step 2
Wire wrapped around loom button

Wrap the wire around the button twice.

Step 3
Wire on loom

Pull the wire up and around the top of the loom. Let the wire settle into one of the grooves and pull it across to the other side of the Baby Jewel Loom.

Step 4
Wire wrapped around loom button

Line the wire up with a groove on the other side, then wrap it around the second button.

Step 5
Wire warped on loom

Continue Steps 3 and 4, wrapping the wire around the button and across the length of the loom, skipping one groove each time, until you have as many warp wires as your design needs. This design uses 11 warp wires and size 6 seed beads.

Step 6
Wire warped on loom and wrapped around loom button

Secure the warp wire behind the button and wrap around a few times to secure.

Step 7
Nylon jaw pliers flattening wire

If necessary, use nylon jaw pliers to straighten your warp wires. Do this gently so you don't move any wires out of place.

Note: This design uses 11 wires, so it will require 10 beads. Always use one less bead than you have wires.

Step 8
Beads in loom

String your beads on a piece of 26-gauge artistic wire. Place the beads and wire underneath the warp wire. The tail will be on the right and the working wire should be on the left. Push the beads up through the wires so that one bead is between each wire and hold them in place with your index finger.

Step 9
Beads being threaded on loom

Carefully and gently thread the 26-gauge wire back through the row of beads from left to right - this creates the weft portion of the weave. Make sure that the weft wire passes back through each bead and the warp wires are sandwiched in between the weft wire.

Step 10
Beads threaded onto loom

Pull the weft wire tight.

Step 11
Beads threaded onto loom

You may need to use bent chain-nose pliers to grasp onto the wires to make sure that the weft is snug against the warp.

Step 12
Two rows of beads on a loom

String up the next row of beads according to the pattern. Hold the beads in place behind the warp wires. Make sure each space has one bead.

Step 13
Two rows of beads on a loom

Pull the weft wire tight against the warp wire.

Step 14
Three rows of beads on a loom

Continue adding each row according to your pattern.

Step 15
Four rows of beads on a loom

Row 4.

Step 16
Five rows of beads on a loom

Row 5.

Step 17
Six rows of beads on a loom

Row 6.

Step 18
Seven rows of beads on a loom

Row 7.

Step 19
Eight rows of beads on a loom

Row 8.

Step 20
Cutting pliers cutting warp wire

When you are finished with the pendant pattern, carefully snip the warp wires free from both sides of the Baby Jewel Loom.

Step 21
Wire being twisted around pendant

Weave the weft wire back down along the side of the pendant so it is secure and out of the way.

Step 22
Beads threaded onto the warp wires

To finish-off the design, add one seed bead to the 5th wire from each side as shown.

Step 23
Pliers bending warp wires

Add another bead over all three of the center wires.

Step 24
Pliers creating a loop in wire

Use round-nose pliers to make a wrapped loop with all three wires.

Step 25
Pliers creating a loop in wire

Use wire cutters to trim the wire from the loop.

Step 26
Pendant with wire loops

Repeat Steps 22 - 25 to make matching loops on either side. You'll have one extra wire on each side. Bend this extra wire down to the side.

Step 27
Wire woven through loops

Weave the extra wire back and forth along the side of the pendant until you reach the middle to lock it into place.

Step 28
Wire cutters trimming excess wire

Snip the excess wire as close to the pendant as possible and bend it into place with chain nose pliers.

Step 29
Wire looped on pendant

Repeat Steps 22 - 25 to make matching picots on the other side of the pendant. Make sure these loops are all perpendicular to the pendant so you can thread a chain through them.

Step 30
Wires bent down over beads

Bend down each of the remaining side wires and weave them back through the sides so that they meet the other woven in wires.

Step 31
Plier cutters snipping excess wire

Snip the excess wire and tuck in the ends.
